BAYweb Thermostat saves pipes from freezing

One of the beta tester's homes was saved from freezing pipes. Here's the story:

Early in the week I awoke to find my house temperature below the setting on the thermostat and checked my furnace. The blower was running but the gas was not coming on and lighting. I had this problem once in the past with heavy snow and went outside to check the air intake for the furnace and sure enough the intake was blocked with ice and snow. After clearing it the furnace began working immediately. I believed the problem was resolved for another couple of years again but later that same week...

My son and I were on a ski trip to Blue Mountain Ontario in Canada and my wife was on a business trip in Athens Greece. It was the coldest weather we had seen in Northwest Ohio in quite some time with the temperature reaching 18 degrees below zero.

After arriving at our hotel in Canada (seven hours away from home) I logged into the internet and checked on my newly installed Web Thermostat since I was worried about how cold it was back home. I immediately noticed that the temperature of the house was below the temperature settings at the thermostat. I saw that the furnace was "on" but that the house had continued to cool for the past 6 hours. The temperature had dropped from 60 degrees to 47 degrees and I could see it was dropping fast. I figured that I had about 3 to 4 hours to get the problem resolved before my pipes would freeze!

I suspected the same problem as earlier in the week. After trying some neighbors who were not at home I contacted my local HVAC service company and (bless them) they sent a tech to fix the problem at nearly midnight. He was amazed that I could tell him the temperature inside my house was 45 degrees while I was in Canada and he was standing outside my front door. After the intake was cleared I saw the temperature begin to rise and knew that the problem was resolved. This one incident made me a believer in the Web Thermostat. Thanks BAYweb!
